Spanish,
Dutch and Japanese. As I got older, I became aware of the lyric content of the song I would be recording and how really understanding
the meaning would influence how I would sing the song. In this learning process, I had some real funny
experiences. Most of them came about during the live recording session out of the
US. Over the years, my accent in the various languages improved dramatically, however, in the early days, I would look through the window of the control booth only to see the technicians and my Producer laughing themselves silly because I had just turned a phrase around into something about 180 degrees from the original meaning. I came to realize my ability to sing each word perfectly was only half my responsibility.
By this time, I had my daughter Sande in my life as well as Arnie, my husband/manager. Sande made me smile and Arnie had me working a lot harder. The thing was and is, I love to sing. In
reality, I was now singing for a living. I had this God given talent that was there to be used any way I chose. I have a very distinct sound and I realized that I could give a song a very special sound. I began to ask for certain kinds of lyrics and
melodies, and to read the words over and over again before I sang one note. After years of singing, I now found so much more fun and pleasure in the songs I was singing.
This CD is my personal musical statement. These are songs I talked over with my husband, my daughter and all the different producers involved. I actually met some of the writer/composers and got their feedback as well. This then is the culmination of a whole lot of deciding. The lyrics are short stories. I like to think that some will make you smile, while others could bring tears to your eyes, but overall, they will make you think, while bringing as much pleasure to you as they did to me.
